Grand Teton & Yellowstone National Parks....Two of the most scenic, photogenic locations in this, or any, country. : The relatively "young” mountains of the Grand Teton range provide a dramatic backdrop for classic landscape images. The mystical mist and geysers of Yellowstone suggest another world and a wealth of photographic opportunities. Flowers (and a few butterflies) : Most of these images captured at the New York Botanical Garden, or the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, or Old Westbury Garden over the course of a number of years and visits. The Lotus flowers only bloom for a short period of time, so it is important to get to these locations (one in the heart of Brooklyn, one in the Bronx) on just the right day. Sometimes it is too windy and the flowers therefore move too much to be able to get pictures which I accept as sharp enough. Sometimes it is too sunny...flowers are best photographed in cloudy or overcast days in order to be able to capture all the subtle color variations and not have them "blown out" by too much light.

Coney Island Polar Bear Swim: Jan 1st, 2009 : This was one COLD/FRIGID day! About 20 degrees, strong winds making it about ZERO wind/chill; water temperature 40 degrees. The rocks on the jetties had thick sheets of ice on them! A few thousand brave souls (many with the apparent assistance of various forms of alcohol) took the plunge. NYPD Rescue Boats offshore, along with numerous lifeguards on land. This was a typical, rowdy, joyous, loud, Coney Island event that could only take place in this historic location. I even spotted a few Mermaids from the Mermaid Day Parade! Polar Bear Swim Long Beach 2009 & 2008, for the Make-a-Wish Foundation : 2009: THOUSANDS of swimmers, nice sunny day. I realized that looking at just the swimmers, it would be hard to distinguish that this is a freezing day in mid-winter rather than just a bunch of people running into the ocean on a nice, warm, sunny day. Due to this I attempted to include more "crowd" shots of the heavily bundled people/supporters standing on the beach. This was an attempt to break the Guiness Book of World Records. It probably was successful. 2008: You will notice that there was a definite GIANTS theme to the "attire" on many of the brave swimmers and their supporters (in every sense). This was SUPERBOWL SUNDAY, and I am sure the spirit of everyone there helped propel the New York GIANTS to VICTORY later that evening!
